Do you ever catch yourself daydreaming about what you wish your life would look like? Maybe it’s waking up in a space that feels calm and yours, doing work that actually lights you up, and being surrounded by people who truly get you. Sounds good, right?
But for many of us, that life can feel out of reach. Like they belong to “other people” who have something we don’t… more time, more money, a better relationship with their partner, or a more fulfilling career.
I know that feeling well. There was a time in my life when I felt completely stuck. I was doing work that didn’t feel like me, going through the motions, and wondering if this was just “how life is supposed to be.” I felt disconnected from myself and the people in my life. Purpose? No idea. It wasn’t until I sat down and got really clear about the life I wanted that things started to shift.
I pictured myself waking up early so I could get a walk in before traffic started in Denver. Coming home and having coffee while sitting outside journaling. Being ready to work by 8:30, feeling accomplished and grounded. I saw myself doing work that mattered to me, somehow returning to my childhood dreams of being a social worker — but helping people in a different capacity. I imagined having real, deep connections with people I loved.
At first, that felt kind of far-fetched. (Definitely waking up early – I was not an early riser!) But as I kept imagining it in more detail, it started to feel possible. I started craving that life. And I saw the little steps I could take to start to make that life happen. I enrolled in somatic programs. Akashic records. Midlife awakening. I stopped settling.
So, if you're feeling stuck or off-track, try this:
Take 20 minutes to sit down and write out your ideal life. No filters. No “shoulds.” Just write it out like it’s already real.
What does your day look like? Where do you live? Who do you spend time with? What kind of work are you doing? How do you feel in that life?
Getting clear like this doesn’t magically change everything overnight, but it gives you something powerful: clarity and direction to take.
Why Having a Vision Matters
When you’re unclear on where you’re going, life can feel like you’re just floating. Kind of existing, but not really living. You might feel like you’re always busy, but not fulfilled. Or like you’re waiting for “someday.”
But once you have a clear picture of the life you want? That’s when things start to line up. You stop saying yes to things that don’t align with your vision. You start seeing new options. You stop settling — and that changes everything.
Start Here: Ask Yourself These 4 Questions
1. What does your work look like in your ideal life?
Are you working for a company that shares your values? Or are you running your own thing, building something that’s fully yours? Whatever it is, your work should feel like something that energizes you — not drains you. Your work shouldn’t feel like something you “should” do because it looks good on paper.
2. Where are you living?
Big city vibes? Quiet small town? Something in between? Think about what kind of environment makes you feel safe, inspired, and you. Maybe it’s a city where you can walk to everything, access to nature, or a cozy home filled with plants and books and music. Whatever it is — get specific.
3. How do you spend your time?
Beyond work, what fills your days? Are you creating? Moving your body? Spending time with people who lift you up? Volunteering? Learning something new? What are your passions and hobbies? Do you have a spiritual or religious practice? Describe what a really good day or week looks like for you.
4. What does it feel like to live that life?
At the end of the day, this is the most important piece. In your dream life, how do you feel when you wake up? What emotions are you carrying as you move through your day? How do you feel about yourself and your place in the world?
This exercise isn’t about making some perfect plan. It’s about helping you see what you really want — and then figuring out how to move toward it, one real step at a time.
You deserve a life that feels aligned, meaningful, and deeply yours. Let’s stop settling for “fine” and start aiming for what feels right to you.
